Programs

Every program conducted at the Centre is different. Centre staff will develop curriculum programs in consultation with coordinators. All programs will be based on those learning outcomes identified by the coordinator. The Centre will then conduct orientation programs for coordinators and other visiting staff. These orientation programs provide opportunities for: final program negotiations, skilling visiting staff in program support, resource familiarisation and partnership development.

QESSI

The NKIEEC is a QESSI hub, supporting schools throughout Central Queensland who wish become more sustainable. In 2007 these schools include Yeppoon State School, Emu Park State School, Frenchville State School, Longreach State School, Lakes Creek State School and Rockhampton Grammar Primary School. Centre staff work with staff and students of hub schools in developing and implementing action plans to reduce water, energy and waste and improve biodiversity.

Nature Exposed- Reconnecting People And Nature

NKIEEC is one of the few educational facilities in Australia qualified to provide training in this values immersion program. This three-day professional development program focuses on how people value nature, and the associated implications for school operations. The program provides significant understandings of why it is increasingly critical that we provide outdoor and environmental education experiences for our students, for teachers and for our future. The NKIEEC is an excellent residential venue for this staff program - or alternatively, the Centre can provide training at your school.

Costs - $150 per participant (including GST)

Middle Years of Learning

As Education Queensland’s first extended residential campus, we have significant opportunities to support the characteristics and needs of adolescents. Programs are designed for Year 9 students and run for a minimum of 3 weeks. The focus on these programs includes leadership and connection to place.
